The Faro ceramic fruit bowl is a glazed piece about 30 centimetres in diameter and 10 centimetres high, supported on a small circular base. Measurements are approximate and may vary slightly between one piece and another, due to their traditional artisan production. These ceramic fruit bowls are made by José Manuel Vega “Selito”, the only potter who continues the tradition of Faro pottery. He learned the techniques and processes from his father José Vega “Lito”, another great master potter, heir of the region’s pottery tradition. These are pieces of great cultural interest, as they have been made using traditional manufacturing processes, maintaining the decorative elements of times gone by. One of the most common is the “la páxara” design, which appears on this fruit bowl. It is an animal figure, half fish and half bird, inspired by the mythological traditions of ancient cultures.
