The madreña footwear for children measures 17.5 x 6.5 cm, suitable for about Spanish children's size 25. They must be worn with closed-toe house slippers.

Traditional Asturias footwear, made by hand from a single piece of wood. It is characterised by a well marked heel, and two front studs on the sole.
These protrusions, protected with rubber studs, provide stability to the madreña footwear on uneven ground, insulate the foot against mud and moisture, and allow it to rotate when walking, thus compensating for the lack of flexible material.
